Richard Spencer of the right-wing National Policy Institute has begun teaching "emergency sessions" in foreigner-identification following a spate of shootings where the intended target was a person of Arab descent but the racist shooter actually fired on a target of Indian descent.
Said Spencer: "We understand the motive for national and racial purity--but the optics are getting to be terrible. Our doctrine is in favor of lone wolves taking up arms against the foreign invaders so that they peacefully either genocide themselves or otherwise self-deport, leaving Western Civilization to the West."
"Unfortunately, some members of, well, some members of society with whom we have nothing to do, are shooting targets and then identifying them as the wrong race."
When asked if it was the shooting--or the identification--that was the problem, Spencer was clear. "It's both, obviously," he said. "I mean, we don't advocate shooting anyone, of course. But if you are going to shoot someone in the name of racial purity--a concept we do endorse, when you misidentify them to the press and the authorities it makes everyone who has any ethnonationalism in them look like an idiot."
"That's a branding nightmare--the movement can survive violence, exposure, and philosophical debate, but if the public sees us as rock-stupid it takes conversions way down. Mockery is worse than hate."
Exactly how the group was reaching out to potential shooters was unclear but sources inside NPI referenced "Old Ron Paul mailing lists, purchases of 'deplorable-branded' clothing, and people with black-lung conditions who were losing their health care.'
While the training classes were kept highly secure, we were able to get our hands on some of the distributed material:
